The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are international goals adopted unanimously by all UN member states at the United Nations Summit in September 2015. They consist of 17 goals and 169 targets, aiming to address a wide range of global issues—such as poverty, inequality, and climate change—by 2030, guided by the principle of “leaving no one behind.” The SDGs are universal, meaning they are relevant not only for developing countries but also for developed countries, as all work toward a more sustainable and better world. Japan is actively engaged in their implementation.
